Are We Losing Ourselves? An Old Soul’s Thoughts on Modern Life
Have you ever just sat down and thought on what’s the purpose of life in modern world?
Hello cuties,
I hope you’re doing well. I’m doing okay too.
After so many months, I’m finally writing again. I always tell myself that I’ll post regularly, but this time, without giving any excuses, I’ll simply admit it — maybe I’m just lazy sometimes.
But today, something made me stop scrolling and start writing. I was wondering the purpose of life in modern world.
I was wondering how I once used to be an avid reader. Books, blogs, long conversations — they used to excite me. And now? I’ve somehow become an endless reels and YouTube Shorts scroller.
Has everyone become like this?
Or are there still people who love the old-fashioned, slow, traditional way of living?
With AI everywhere these days, nothing feels impossible anymore. AI can be your assistant, your therapist, your teacher, even your companion. Technology is moving faster than ever, yet somehow, many of us feel more lost than before.
As I write this post, I’m realizing why I keep coming back to writing even after long breaks. It gives me a strange thrill — the feeling of expressing thoughts that have been sitting quietly inside my head for months.
Maybe no one will even read this. Maybe it will disappear into the void of the internet. But still, writing feels meaningful.
There is so much I want to say, yet sometimes I fall short of words.
Honestly, not much has changed in my life. I’m still the same person — still overthinking the future while getting stuck in the past. Motivation quotes inspire me… but only for a few seconds.
Lately, I’ve been worried about many things: my career, marriage, purpose, and honestly, myself.

I don’t know if this is a Gemini thing or if everyone feels this way, but I’ve always felt torn between two completely different paths:
- One path wants to leave everything behind and become a monk.
- The other wants to work hard, earn success, achieve big dreams, and prove something to the world.
The funny thing is, success isn’t guaranteed in either path.
And maybe that’s what scares all of us.
The biggest question I still carry in my heart is:
What is the purpose of life?
Do people really find their purpose?
Or is “finding purpose” a luxury only rich people can afford while the rest of us keep grinding every day just to survive?
Is life about expensive cars, luxury homes, and social status?
Or is the real purpose of life understanding ourselves — the soul within us?
Maybe one day God will show us the direction we’re searching for.
Until then, maybe all we can do is keep moving forward.
Yesterday, I watched a movie, and one dialogue stayed with me:
“99% of people believe in destiny. The remaining 1% write their own destiny — and those 1% people run the world.”
That line hit me hard.
Maybe it was just a movie dialogue.
Or maybe it was a sign.
Let’s see how long I stay inspired before I give up again.
But honestly, I’m happy that I took the time to write today. No matter how many reels or videos I watch, a part of me will always remain the same.
I’ll always be that old soul who finds peace in reading and writing.
An old soul trying to live slowly in a fast-moving world filled with technology, AI, endless scrolling, and constant noise. Maybe one day all of us will find our purpose in this modern world.
And honestly?
It’s hard living like this sometimes.
